Description
The Swamp Skipper, also known as the Swamp Lion, is a creature of opportunity. Finding a shallow bog or wallow near an animal trail, the creature will sit and wait for hours half buried in the mud. Standing perfectly still with only its head and shoulders exposed, it resembles an old tree stump and is generally overlooked.
As the prey unwarily approaches, the monster attacks with blinding speed. Leaping from hiding it rushes the surprised prey and viscously rips a chunk of flesh from its victim. It quickly falls back into it’s hiding place to wait for the severely wounded creature to bleed to death. This is usually enough to take down most prey, which it drags back to its wallow to devour at leisure.
Patience and surprise are it’s greatest assets, both it uses with superb skill. Little is known of the habits and life of this creature, as few that have faced a Swamp Skipper alone, live to tell of. Even those lucky enough to survive, rarely know exactly what attacked, as the creature disappears immediately into the many bogs and quagmires of the swamp.
- +3 racial bonus to hide, listen and spot skills if in a muddy environment.
