Description

A pear-shaped mass of quivering goo slithers across the ground, making an odd sucking sound as it advances. At the base of this blue-gray mound is a toothless, gaping maw from which a noxious stench emerges. Three slimy tendrils project out from the top of the beast, slapping to and fro.

The goo demon is a dim-witted creature of ooze that dwells deep beneath the ground in generally damp, dank conditions. It exists primarily to eat and its appetite is boundless. As it moves about it leaves behind a thick coating of slime that makes the footing treacherous until the substance dries up.

A goo demon's sense of smell and taste is extraordinarily sensitive, and it can detect a wounded or dead creature from a distance of more than a mile once the fluids enter the underground water supply. A large carcass can attract several of these otherwise solitary monsters to feast on the remains. Thereafter they will ambush other scavengers after the remains are consumed.

Combat

A goo demon attacks with three flexible tendrils, wrapping up an opponent and then drawing it into the gaping maw. In addition to grabbing a foe, the ends of the tendrils are fanged and can inflict a paralyzing bite to immobilize a struggling victim.

The slippery trail of a goo demon can make footing treacherous in combat, and the creature is just intelligent enough to use this to its advantage.

Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a goo demon must hit with a tendril attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can attempt to swallow whole the foe the following round.

Swallow Whole (Ex): A goo demon can try to swallow a grabbed opponent of a smaller size than itself by making a successful grapple check. Once inside, the opponent takes 1d8+7 points of bludgeoning damage plus 2d6 points of acid damage per round from the goo demon's gizzard. A swallowed creature can cut its way out by using a light slashing or piercing weapon to deal 16 points of damage to the gizzard (AC 10). Once the creature exits, the hole is sealed as the ooze merged back together seamlessly; another swallowed opponent must cut its own way out. A goo demon's interior can hold 2 medium, 8 small, 32 tiny, or 128 diminutive or smaller opponents.

Slime (Ex): The goo demon continually emits a 10-ft.-radius pool of slippery slime, and leaves a slime trail behind as it moves about. This slimy surface otherwise functions as a grease spell (caster level 8th-level), drying up 8 rounds after it is deposited.

The slippery body of a goo demon gives it a +10 circumstance bonus on grapple checks made to resist or escape a grapple or to escape a pin.

Spit Goo (Ex): Once every 1d4 rounds, spit a blob of goo with 20 ft. range increment. If the good demon hits with a ranged touch attack, objects gripped by the target (including weapons) are affected by a grease spell (caster level 8th-level).

Skills: The goo demon receive a +8 racial bonus on Balance and Escape Artist checks. A goo demon can choose to take 10 on Balance checks, even if rushed or threatened.
